Executive Officers

Craig S. Shular

Chairman, President & Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Shular is our Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President. He has been a driving force in growing our sales, creating positive cash flow, and virtually eliminating our debt at the end of 2009.

He originally joined GrafTech's predecessor company, Union Carbide Corporation's Carbon Products Division, and from 1976 through 1979 succeeded in positions in the areas of business management, sales and marketing, operations, government relations, internal audit, and international finance and accounting.

Mr. Shular was recruited to GrafTech in 1999 as our Chief Financial Officer with responsibility for treasury, investor relations, mergers and acquisitions, insurance, cash management, foreign exchange risk management, pension fund administration and banking relations.

In 2008, he was recognized as an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year®, which is recognized as one of the most prestigious business award programs in the country. Award winners are selected by a panel of independent judges, including local business owners - many of whom have won the award in the past as well as area leaders from civic organizations and academic institutions.

Prior to rejoining GrafTech in 1999, Mr. Shular advanced his career at Union Carbide Corporation in progressively increased areas of responsibility, including internal auditor, Far East Financial Controller for Indonesia and, Area Finance Manager for Asia Pacific. His contributions also included positions as Currency and Interest Risk Manager Far East Area Treasurer for Asia Pacific, Business Director/General Manager for the Emulsion Polymers business, and Corporate Treasurer of a major joint venture headquartered in Milan, Italy. While with Union Carbide, he initiated and led the construction of its first production facilities in China and the Middle East.

Mr. Shular earned his Bachelor of Science degree in business and marketing and an MBA in finance and accounting from the State University of New York at Buffalo. In 1990 he became a certified public accountant in the state of New York.

Mr. Shular serves on the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement of Greater Cleveland and is a director of Brush Engineered Materials Inc., a NYSE listed company.


Lindon G. Robertson

Vice President & Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Robertson is GrafTech’s Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. In this role, he oversees the finance, investor relations, IT, procurement, tax and treasury functions for the company. He joined GrafTech in July 2011.

Prior to joining GrafTech, he was employed by IBM Corporation for 27 years. During his tenure there, Mr. Robertson held multiple senior financial leadership positions, including CFO of IBM's product divisions and its global hardware business. He also served internationally for more than 10 years as CFO of the company’s Japan and China operations.

Mr. Robertson has an undergraduate degree in accounting from the University of Texas and an MBA from the University of North Carolina. He holds a Certified Public Accountant license from the state of North Carolina.


Pieter J. Barnard

President, Industrial Materials and Vice President, GrafTech International Ltd.

Mr. Barnard is President, Industrial Materials. GrafTech’s Industrial Materials business manufacturers a broad range of high quality graphite electrodes, products essential to the production of electric arc furnace steel and various other ferrous and nonferrous metals. The Industrial Materials business also manufactures carbon, graphite and semi-graphite refractory products, which protect the walls of blast furnaces and submerged arc furnaces.

Mr. Barnard joined GrafTech in 1972 and has served in various positions of increasing responsibility.

He is a graduate of University of Potchefstroom – South Africa with a B.S. Sciences degree (cum laude) and an MBA, and received his PhD from Rand Afrikaans University.


Hermanus L. Pretorius

President, Seadrift Coke and Vice President, GrafTech International Ltd.

Mr. Pretorius is President of Seadrift Coke, which GrafTech acquired in November 2010. Based in Port Lavaca, Texas, Seadrift is the world’s second-largest producer of petroleum-based needle coke—the key raw material in the manufacture of graphite electrodes.

Previously he served for three years as President of GrafTech’s Engineered Solutions business segment, which includes advanced graphite materials and natural graphite products. Mr. Pretorius joined GrafTech in 1977 and has served in various positions of increasing responsibility.

John D. Moran

General Counsel, Vice President and Secretary

In April 2009, Mr. Moran became General Counsel, Vice President & Secretary. His primary responsibilities include counseling GrafTech on corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and commercial and transactional matters, as well as overseeing the legal and corporate secretary functions. He joined GrafTech in May 2006 as Deputy General Counsel.

From December 1996 to April 2006, Mr. Moran was employed by Corrpro Companies, Inc., a leading publicly traded provider of corrosion control engineering services, systems and equipment to the infrastructure, environmental and energy markets around the world. At Corrpro, he served as General Counsel, Senior Vice President & Secretary, managed the legal function, and oversaw the risk management, human resources and safety functions. From January 1987 to December 1996, he was employed as In-House Counsel and Corporate Secretary for Sealy Corporation and managed the legal function for one of the world’s largest bedding and sleep products manufacturer. He began his career in 1984 as a tax accountant with Grant Thornton and became a certified public accountant in 1986. He is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association. He serves as Trustee/Treasurer of NEO Association of Corporate Counsel and is a volunteer for 3R’s, Junior Achievement, Legal Aid Society of Cleveland, and Reach Out Legal Assistance for Nonprofits.

He received a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1980 and Juris Doctorate in 1983 from Cleveland State University.
